The weird thing about it is that it is only played once every 4 years and even with that it still beats the second most watched sporting by more than double. And you may already know what comes in second place, it is the Super Bowl. For every 1 person that watches the Super Bowl there are at least 10 people watching the World Cup games. In the world cup there are 32 teams that play in 8 different groups. Each team in the group will play the other 3 teams in that same group and the top 2 teams move onto the next round. After the group stage is over it is win or go home.
The World Cup games are watched by millions on T.V. and millions online, not to mention the amount of people actually at the game. The World Cup games may be the most watched sporting event, but don’t even get me started on how many people watch the World Cup Final. Just to give you an idea about the amount of people watching the World Cup Final, back in 1998 1.31 billion, 2002 1.1 billion people watched, and in 2006 only 715.5 million people watched. The reason for the lowers numbers is because the rules for what actually counted as a viewer were changed. But even with that change, the number is still staggering. So what makes the World Cup games the most watched? Soccer is known as the world’s game. It is the most played game in the world and has continued to grow more than any other sport.
