In the modern life, where technology is dominating every aspect, security has become a major concern. One of the major security tools available is ‘Passwords’. But even this tool is not safe these days with many hacking stories going around. Why is this happening? What is the problem with safeguarding such important and private data? One answer can be wrong choice of passwords. Passwords are usually set, such that they can easily be remembered, which may turn out to be not so secure and easily hacked. Following is a list of passwords frequently used by users.
1. 123456
It formed the most common password fulfilling the minimum length criteria. Easy to remember, can be recollected by anyone having numerical knowledge. Even other forms of numerical continuations were observed with starting from 1 up to 9.
2. password
With a hint available just next to the password text box, ‘password’ is the second common password popular among internet users. May be this is because of the text field itself saying ‘please enter the password’.
3. qwerty
One more common password used all over, its a series of alphabetical keys on upper left corner of the keyboard. Also other such sets were seen in the list, but not as popular as this one. Some even used qwerty extended till ui i.e. ‘qwertyui’.
4. monkey
Don’t know why but ‘monkey’ has entered the list of most common passwords, may be because of the basic human instinct and natural affinity towards the animal. It can be due to the accomplishment of the basic six characters criteria or may be its easy to remember, monkeys being our ancestors!
5. iloveyou
Such sweet words, every one would love to hear, and that’s the reason may be why it has entered the list. Even other forms such as ‘iloveu’ were noted in the list.
Passwords are meant to protect our identity and data on the internet. However, with such simple passwords being common, hackers would have a field day. Hope next time while setting a password you will look for a really unique and secure one.
